RideLondon for Macmillian cancer and British heart foundation
20/4/2015
This ride was for 10 miles.
I have been ill, a real bad cold
that has got to my chest, I try to avoid colds as they always seem to go to my
chest, as a child I suffered from bronchitis and than asthma, as a result my
lungs are not the best in the world, but I am strong.
This ride was a struggle
especially as my bike is so heavy and the wheels so large, it’s like driving a
tracker in a long distance speedway race.
21/4/2015
10 Miles.
Due to time shortage finish work have to get
home for family time and still not a 100%.
First 5 miles – This was slow
going, weather was good, bum as usually sore, eyes runing not sure if its from
cold.
Second 5 - good.
24/4/2015
10 miles
Ok good - not so well –all I have to say
27/4/2015
26 miles.
Still recovering from sickness, fitness is not
so good.
1st -- 5 miles – Good
did this well. Get up early and off on the ride. Lots of rabbits, two playing
chase in the farmers field, one pricked its ears when I called good morning.
They are so use to the bikes. Some are small like babies others larger but no
not hares.
2nd –8 miles – Hard
going dropped gears to level 3 especially on hills, fitness seems to have
dropped off.
Finally 26 done – want down by
the river to finish the ride, watching the ducks.
29/4/2015 14 miles.
1 Mile short of agreed ride
1st phase over- Instructor up
miles to 30 plus for 2nd phase and restrictions on diet. Ohhps
3/5/2015 30 miles.
The morning started off raining,
pouring down, I did not think I would get out, at 9ish it stop so off I want,
thought I would see how it want but was looking for the 10 miles. But once out
the going was good want off and did 7 miles in the first stage, Ok this was
going well, the trees are looking green, two rabbits crossed my path, one small,
one larger. The farmer’s fields are starting to show green shoots of what ever
they have sown.
The next 10 miles, took a couple
of stops to drink water, if I have decided to do the long ride, I would have
brought some energy drink. Brought new cycling shorts, seem to be a bit more
comfortable, have cycling shorts over cycling trousers. Smiled to myself as I
saw a man who had placed a coat or something over his saddle, know the feeling.
Next 3 miles goes ok, I lost my
peddle as my legs start to tier, its getting busier on the cycle path, so glad
no body behind me as I lost control, lost my peddle and ended up on the other
side of the path. Trainer says I need the cycle shoes, but this ride for
charity is turning out to be costly and I do not really have the money. Still
it’s for charity.
20 miles done and I still have 10
more to do, my legs are starting to tier. Riding down the hill towards the next
hill, a jogger, two people with a dog and a cyclist coming down the opposite
hill on the wrong side, I had to stop. I wanted to cry my legs are hurting, I
did not want to stop would I get going again and I have still 10 miles to
target, and I had to stop.
Get going, a bird I have seen it
before A blackbird that looks as if he has had white paint thrown on his head,
unusually a blackbird yes with yellow beak, but a strange white head.
Lots of people about now, quite a
few men with small children, one has stopped to fix his daughters bike, saw him
on my last leg, teaching her to ride, and other man with a boy, he looked like
a cyclist, another with his son, resting at the side of the rode and yet
another.
Lots of dog walkers.
The last leg – Kept going I am
nearly there and do not want to re do this again tomorrow, want to tick box
this off on my weekly ride training sheet, I have come so far silly to stop
now. But my legs are starting to ache, by the last mile even coasting down the
hills and not peddling the legs are aching, I have a sore bum, sweaty, tired,
but yes, yes, yes I did it.
4/5/2015 2 miles.
I had hoped to do 10 miles to
day, but as I want out my legs had not really recovered from the ride
yesterday, my bum is very cut up and sore, so did a mile to the gym. Some upper
body and core and a mile back.

12th April,
20 Miles.
Did not sleep very well so not really wanting to ride today, weather forecast rain but high winds, but so far the weather is ok. first 5 miles was hard going, although I saw the most beautiful bird with a pink chest as small as a robin but not a robin.
2nd 5 miles ok lots of runners and bikers out today, 3rd part more runners and cyclists, saw my first ladies groups, lots of male groups. Last leg after 16 miles my legs are hurting and to the finish I have an uphill 2 mile ride. This is where the mind games come in, get to the bridge, than to that tree, and to the next bridge.
Overall better startings and better control of the bike, but still got a sore bum.
15th April - 26 miles.
Very hard going, saw lots of rabbits playing in the sun.

RideLondon for Macmillian cancer and British heart foundation
8/4/2015
24 Miles.
1st – leg – 5 miles
This is a good run out, it’s a beautiful day, I am getting stronger and more
confident, able to notice the wildlife, the fields two small robins playing on
the cycle path. The trees are starting to get their lovely fresh green leaves,
the yellow daffodils and dandelions.
It’s a good ride out.
2nd leg – 8 miles, -
another good ride, this time it was easier, I got up all the hills, the was one
stop due to a dog running out towards my bike, I always slow a bit when coming
towards dog walkers, normally they are very good pulling their dog in, but not
this woman, I always thank them. Oh the midges are about, I guess once the sun
comes out, the walkers, cyclist, runners, riverboat barges, robins, birds,
rabbits, and midges all come out.
3rd leg – 6 miles – I am riding in
gears 1 to 4, reduce gears down from 5, I am slower but its better on the legs
and easier to go up the many hills. My trainer at this point is not too bother
about the time he wants the distance in the legs. This first part of the next
leg is up hill, the last part of the hill is very steep, I am sad I did not make
it at the top.
The ride back is good my bum is a
bit sore, but once I sort out wardrobe malfunction I am ok. Its trail and error
to find the most comfortable cloths on my lower half so that I can complete the
ride.
4th leg – 5 miles - A
man riding up the path with two children he is teaching to ride, I passed them
once already, the little boy shout’s goodmorning, and to his father I am in the
front, I am the leader of this little group. My legs are getting very tried and
the last mile is a focused one if a little slower.
Job done legs tried. Its fun with
tired legs to get off a bike, you are very wobbly. Stretch are the finally.
5/4/2015
15 miles.
From the start my legs felt tired
from the day before.
1st – 5 miles - Good
but oh my bottom was so sore.
2nd - 7miles – Good
but very sore bum could not get comfortable on bike seat. Bike seats are not
comfortable.
3rd – 3 miles – Could
not stand the bike seat any more, bottom so sore. Finished.
This ride tired legs and sore
bum.
miles.
3rd –3 miles – This
started on a steep hill going up so dropped gears to 2 on the front and 4 on
the back. and up the hill we want. Moved the gears to 1 and 4 to help the legs,
but the bike slows down riding with these gears and it takes longer to cover
the distance. Plus getting use to riding
in these gears, my steering was not as good, although I was not in the middle
on the path I was not at the side, this very rude man, screeched at me to move
over I did but he was not pleasant as he rode past, and proceed to ride the
rest of the way along the path on the wrong side anyway. What did he want for
me to ride in the grass? He did have all the gear.
Not being a good rider I try to
stay out of the way of the semi – professional riders that race past, they are
ok and actually go that fast you do not have time to speak with them. Dog
walkers are always nice and move their dogs out of the way, I always thank
them.
On the last hill before I
finished, saw one of the PT’s from the local gym, teaching a circuit class
outside this inspired me to get up the last hill. Finished 16 miles and my legs
where so tired.
My starts are better, go in one
accept when tired.
Saw ride instructor; new
instructions need to do 2 rides a week of 15 to 20 miles and 1 of 20 to 25
miles.
4/4/2015
16 miles.
1st -- 5 miles – Good
did this well. Get up early and off on the ride. Was quiet at the beginning but
more and more riders appeared as the morning want on, most be a good day for a
ride.
2nd –8 miles - The
ride up to 5 miles want well, but after this my legs started to tier. I
struggled to get up the steep hills, I came off twice as the bike slowed due to
my leg speed, the bike is heavy it’s a mountain bike not built for speed. These
where hills I normal get up but not after 11 miles.

On the last hill before I
finished, saw one of the PT’s from the local gym, teaching a circuit class
outside this inspired me to get up the last hill. Finished 16 miles and my legs
where so tired.
My starts are better, go in one
accept when tired.
1/4/2015
10 miles.
Did not want to ride today, very
tired lately can not get over the hour going forward, put off a bit by the
winds being so strong last time.
The winds today where still
strong but not as strong as the other day, so rode the first 5 miles ok.
The 2nd 5 miles want
ok, enjoyed ride, started to notice the countryside the trees, the buds are
starting to come out, the birds, the hare that darted across the path, even the
farmer out doing his fields.
Picked up speed on the last mile,
felt good. Blasted the last mile out.
ll guess I knew I was due to finish.
Steering a little better, going
through the cattle grids.
26/3/2015
10 miles
This ride was hard work, I had a
strong head wind, it was slow going even going down the hills, I did not need
the brakes to slow the bike going down hill the wind did this, which shows you
how strong the winds where. Going up the hills I was almost brought to a stop
by the winds.
In the open countryside I
struggles to keep going and came off bike once.
On the way back the wind was
behind me and the ride was good. I made hard work of this ride and was glad it
was over.
gs where starting to tire
4th leg – 3 miles want
well guess I knew I was due to finish.
ver speed bumps,
something I would not do before today.
Steering a little better, going
through the cattle grids.
23/3/2015
18 Miles.
The first part it was raining so
hard going, due to glasses steaming up, need window wipers. When I ran
marathons I would take my glasses off, but cannot do this riding a bike need to
see the distance and what is coming towards me.
Once rained stopped first 5 miles
was good and I did it faster than normal.
2nd leg - 6 miles back up hill, bum was getting sore
so struggled up hill, kept trying to readjust my bottom on bike seat.
3rd leg – 4 miles it
was a good run, but legs where starting to tire
4th leg – 3 miles want
well guess I knew I was due to finish.
Steering a little better, going
through the cattle grids.
18/3/2015
This ride was for 15 miles.
I am not a bike rider after many
years I am learning again, to complete a charity race.
On this ride due to weather and
my breath, my glasses steamed up on the long hill downwards part, I had to stop
twice to clear the glasses and see the route, what was coming the other way.
My hands hurt, I need bike gloves
and more confidence not to hold on to the handlebars so tight, that my hands
hurt.
Good points:
Starts are getting better –
getting both feet on to the pedals takes only 2 to 3 attempts.
This ride saw my first use of
using the gears.
Riding over speed bumps,
something I would not do before today.
Steering a little better, going
through the cattle grids.
